Wedding Dedication

Thank you for asking about this service.

This is a delightful service in which a couple already married, dedicate to God their life together.  It is an official service of the Church of England and assumes that couples wishing to take advantage of it wish to publically and joyfully dedicate their marriage before God, witnessed and prayerfully supported by family and friends.  The service is very similar to a wedding service other than the fact that the couple present themselves as already legally married.  It is therefore a service which we in our combined benefice of churches would like to offer couples where one partner, or both, have  previously been married and are now divorced.  The service can have all the benefits of music, organ, bells etc and can also accommodate any children that might be part of the new relationship.  Many couples like to arrange a dedication service in the afternoon having been civilly married in the morning, thus making the whole occasion their special wedding day.

May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus, so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 15.5-7

If you wish to take things further.... what must I do now?

Make an appointment with Stephen to discuss things further and provisionally book the date.

Come along to a service.
Naturally a service of prayer and dedication is a religious service, it would therefore be very appropriate and indeed useful to make yourself known to us at church, for not only do we have people who can help you with your dedication service (play the organ, arrange flowers etc), we can answer any questions you might have and prayerfully support you as you prepare for your special day and new life together.

Consider what music, hymns and Bible reading you need and prepare an Order of Service.

Stephen can help you with this and you can find some guidance and helpful resources here.

Make a date for a rehearsal and the payment of fees.
It’s essential to have a practice in the church building, to calm the nerves and sort out any last minute problems. Stephen will advise you as to the current costs.

And finally a prayer ...

God of love,
we thank you for the gift of marriage and for the joys it brings.

Bless us as we prepare for our special day.

We thank you for the love
 which has brought us together

and for the desire to share it
 for the rest of our lives;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
